James Miles was born in 1957 in San Francisco, California. He has been producing work in Creativity Explored's studio since 1997.

James lives with his family and visits many places in San Francisco. His artwork often depicts restaurants/eateries, and stores in various San Francisco neighborhoods.

Although he occasionally works in clay, James is best known for his small ink drawings of tiny figures, scenes, and cars. James’ drawings provide the viewer with unusually combined perspectives. His drawings often depict objects in the room that are above shoulder height, such as a ceiling fan, as if the viewer is standing directly under the object. In the same drawing, objects at waist level or below are depicted as if the viewer is looking down at the object. He often uses the same image in his drawings. Some of his most frequently repeated images are three girls chatting, a group of musicians, and an airplane. James’ work has been shown in the zine “WhipperSnapper Nerd” and in many of Creativity Explored’s exhibitions.

Creativity Explored is a nonprofit multimedia visual arts center for people with developmental disabilities. Our artwork is appreciated and collected by outsider, naïve, self-taught, and folk art lovers from around the world.
