In this unique book, Michael lists his fears - 183 of them, to be exact. His list includes fears shared by all of us - and some that are uniquely Michael's. In these complicated times, when everything in the newspapers and media has been touched by "spin doctors", Michael's writing is refreshingly honest. He deals with life's concerns in a poignant and delightful manner.
Michael Bernard Loggins was born in 1961 in San Francisco, California. He has been writing, drawing and painting at Creativity Explored since its inception in 1983. His exhibition resume includes San Francisco shows at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Inside out Gallery, The San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, SOMARTS, Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, Southern Exposure, and The Market Street Kiosks. Michael's work has been shown nationally at the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles and the Bronwyn Keenan Gallery in New York.
Michael was the focus of a documentary "Life Itself" (a title he came up with), released in 2001. Shortly before starring in "Life Itself", he was in a film by Miranda July.
His "Fears of Your Life" and "Fears of Your Life - A Whole Brand New One" have been enjoyed by a broad San Francsico readership since they were first published. In 2000, 138 fears (Part I) were published in The Sun, a magazine of literature, poetry, and photography. In 2003 "Fears" was shared with a broad national audience when it was read on Chicago Public Radio's 'This American Life' with Ira Glass, and in the June issue of Harper's Magazine.
Michael has a huge collection of 45s (somewhere in the neighborhood of 400-500 records) and enjoys singing. He has a cassette tape of songs that he has sung while accompanying himself on percussion (an empty coffee can).
Michael loves to write and draw. His writing usually takes the form of notes to people he likes, concerns about life (safety, allergies, emotions, etc.) and the re-telling of incidents and events in his life. His drawings usually deal with lighter subject matter such as animals, pocket TVs, idyllic worlds, and imaginary people.
